RECENT GRANTS

R.C. Middle-High School – India

Kemtatoli Middle/High School $2,000

Kemtatoli school was founded in 2012 in response to the high number of children dropping out of both middle and high school in the local area.  The issue seems most acute in and around Kemtatoli though it is prevalent throughout the Jharkhand area.  Currently the lack of quality education is one of the root causes of the poor socio-economic conditions of the people throughout the Jharkhand area.  Currently there are over 400 students enrolled in the school, virtually all from poor backgrounds.  These boys and girls often struggle with basic living needs so to have assistance with food, clothing, and supplies along with the education is a true God send.

St. Theresa Formation Program – Sri Lanka

St. Theresa Seminary $2,000

St. Theresa Seminary is the first stage of education/formation for young men from all parts of Sri Lanka who are seeking to explore and discern a call to live as Redemptorist Missionary Brothers and Priests.  Following acceptance into the program the young men move from their family homes and take up residence at the Seminary Residence in Colombo.  The program can accommodate up to 25 young men ranging in ages from 14-20.

The Seminary is almost fully funded by the Sri Lankan Redemptorist Province.  In general, the boys come from the poor and rural areas of Sri Lanka.  If possible, families are asked to contribute the rough equivalent of 18 USD a month with over half of it going to tuition.  Most families are unable to contribute the full amount if anything at all.  The difference is made up with some outside grants which provide for living and school expenses for the young men.

Father Ray Foundation - Thailand

Pattaya Redemptorist School for the Blind $4,000

The Pattaya Redemptorist School for the Blind provides an education for over 100 students that come from all over Thailand to study at the school.

Students follow the national curriculum while also learning skills that help them to become more independent, such as reading and writing using the Braille language system, using an abacus for calculations, and using a white cane.

The school is unique in that it is one of only two similar schools in Thailand that accepts students with multiple disabilities.

St. Gerard Magella Seminary House - Burkina Faso

$1,000

The seminary house currently has 43 young men studying for the priesthood. These future priests will serve throughout West Africa.

A grant was provided for sports equipment to provide some recreation (and mind clearing) between classes and studying.
